With the Support of Rietumu Bank the Book “Modern Architecture of Latvia” Has Been Published

The presentation of the fundamental work – “Modern Architecture of Latvia” has taken place in the Rietumu Bank premises. The publication includes a survey of the best architectural constructions built in Latvia since the late 1980s. The book also contains interviews with the leading architects of Latvia.



The book has been prepared by a professional team; its authors are Velta Hofmane, Editor of the Latvian Architecture periodical, Agrita Luse, Chief Editor of the Latvian Construction periodical and fine art expert Ilze Zevaite. The work was conducted under the patronage of the Latvian Union of Architects. Publication of the book was supported by the Charity Fund of Rietumu Bank.

Among the provided 67 items of the most outstanding examples of the modern architecture of Latvia, the publication includes the building of the Rietumu Bank headquarters – Rietumu Capital Centre.

According to its architect Viktors Valgums, “We tried to create the correct architecture which fully corresponds to the image and requirements of a modern bank and, in my opinion, we succeeded in doing it. Generally, customers requiring bank buildings worldwide are competent, demanding and value good architecture.”

The book’s presentation was attended by the architectural beau monde of Latvia, including leading architects, specialists and critics.

At the book presentation ceremony, Chairman of the Board of the Rietumu Bank Charity Fund Inga Shina noted, “One of the main trends in the Fund’s operation is the support of qualitative modern art and culture. With our support, lots of publications and art books have been released. I congratulate everyone on the publication of such a beautiful and interesting book, I am very pleased to see that our small country has so many examples of good architecture.”
