A New Campaign on “Our Search for the Best Nurse” Starts

20 September 2018, 14:19

Such campaign is conducted by the Rietumu Charity Fund annually – now for the tenth time. Its patroness is the First Lady of Latvia, Iveta Vejone, and informative support is provided by the Diena newspaper.

This year, medical nurses from all departments of the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, Riga East Clinical University Hospital and the Children's Clinical University Hospital will take part in the campaign.

By 30 November, all former and current patients of these hospitals, their friends and family members can vote for their best nurse. The 20 best nurses selected will receive solemn awards at the reception of the President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis and cash bonuses from the Rietumu Charity Fund in the amount of EUR 1000.

According to the patroness of the campaign, Iveta Vejone, “For me, it is a great honour to participate in such a noble project. Nurses, who work with devotion for the benefit of their patients, are, figuratively speaking, the heart of our healthcare. I know from my personal experience that their sincere affection, care, the sense of responsibility and passion for their work are at times more important than medicines. Therefore, I invite everyone to take part in this campaign, as well as also evaluate our nurses and thank them for their hard work in our everyday lives.”

Chairperson of the Board of the Rietumu Charity Fund Inga Shina said. “For our contest, this is a jubilee year. When we started it ten years ago, our main task was to attract the attention of the community to the importance of the nursing profession and improve the status of their significant work. During this period, I have visited many hospitals, met doctors and nurses and learnt about their problems.
And I have to say that, fortunately, the situation is gradually improving. However, as we know, already solved problems are inevitably replaced by new ones. And the nursing profession is no exception. The most important aspect within it, remains the human one, and a person can only perform their job well when they really love doing it. Therefore, we are very pleased to see that new and young people are coming to this profession, having selected this important and interesting path in life.
I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to the nurses, who help us and our family members in hard moments in our lives, and invite you all to take part in the campaign and select your best nurse!”.

You can vote for your best nurse at all of the aforementioned hospitals by completing a questionnaire on the spot, as well as by forwarding an e-mail to [email protected] .
