The International Student Academic Research and Artistic Creation Conference “ Changing World: in Search for New Solutions – 2014 ” has been held at Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration (RISEBA) with the support of bank Rietumu.

Within the framework of this conference, graduates of the biggest higher education establishments of Latvia, as well as senior high school students presented their research papers and reports, following which the best of them were determined for each category.

More than 100 papers were presented at the conference in the following categories: solutions of macroeconomic and financial issues, information technologies, e-commerce, modern business and project management, opportunities for the development of entrepreneurship and trade, image and communication dimensions, business psychology and human resource management, audiovisual arts and media.

According to the results of the presentations, an expert commission, which also included Rietumu bank specialists in the field of finance, treasury, risk management, information technologies, human resource management, public relations and marketing, determined the best paper in each category. The authors of these papers received prizes in the amount of EUR 650. A special award from Rietumu Bank was also granted.

According to Eugene Dugaev, Member of the Board of Rietumu Bank, Senior Vice-president in charge of IT and business technologies, “My colleagues from the bank and I were glad due to the provided opportunity to participate in the jury and to assess the reports of the students. In general, we saw quite a good level – interesting and independent works have been presented. However, in our opinion, there was no ‘star’ paper among them to be obviously distinguished from the general background. We assessed the reports based on two criteria – an innovative idea and the possibility of its practical implementation or benefit from the offered solution. There was a sufficient amount of quite good works that met one of the criteria, but not both of them. Therefore, we decided to deviate from our initial plan and did not award the main prize to one team – a bonus in the amount of EUR 1000, but rather passed these funds to the university administration. I am sure that they will be able to use it wisely and with maximum benefit for the students.”

A special prize from Rietumu Bank was given to Oskars Gauks and Marija Odinec for the paper about start-ups in Latvia – the authors were invited to the biggest e-commerce conference in the Baltic Region “eCom-21”, which will allow young specialists to broaden their professional horizons and their scope of contacts.

“RISEBA is a close university for us – many employees of the bank, including some top managers studied here at different times. In my opinion, RISEBA is now one of the most progressive business-focused universities in Latvia. We – Rietumu – are a modern and dynamic bank. We look at major issues, including development aspects, from a business viewpoint. I think that our bank is an employer with good prospects for young and ambitious specialists focused on success, and they can grow professionally, make their career and achieve success in our team. Having evaluated the presented papers, we invited several authors to the bank for an interview. In general, I am satisfied with the work done within the framework of the conference and hope that our cooperation with RISEBA will continue,” said Eugene Dugaev.
