The Major Project of the Biennale will take place on the territory of VDNKh. The "eventful" part of the Biennale will take place from September 22 to October 1 at the Central Pavilion of VDNKh, which is going to be distinguished by extensive discussion and performance program. The second "exhibition" part to be held during a period from October 2 to November 1 will collect in Central Pavilion the works of artists created as a result of the first "eventful" part of the Biennale.

Rietumu will act as the general partner of the Biennale

Moscow Biennale has a deserved reputation as one of the largest and most established international forums in the field of contemporary art. This is where leading Russian and foreign curators, bright artists, critics, and philosophers meet each other and where non-standard methods and platforms to showcase works are used.

By decision of the International Expert Council, the following curators have been chosen for the Major Project entitled "How to Live Together? View from the Downtown in the Heart of Eurasia Island": Bart De Baere, director of the MUHKA Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp; Defne Ayas, director of Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam; and Nicolaus Schafhausen, director of the Kunsthalle Wien in Vienna.

As the Chairman of the Board of Rietumu Charity Foundation Inga Sina put it: "By taking decision to participate in supporting the Biennale, we appraised the importance of the broad international perception of the event and the great interest aroused in the contemporary art world. Whatever the age is the art — like business — has always attracted the most talented representatives of its generation eager to invent something new, promote their own original concepts, implement audacious projects, argue and defend their point of view.

At the same time the art and business teach people to listen to, better understand and respect each other, as well as seek for and find common interests and values. Both of these spheres of human activity help finding an answer to the question serving as the title theme of the current biennale: "How to Live Together".

Apart from the Major Project, Moscow Biennale will present programs like "Special Guests", "Special Projects" and a Parallel Program, which will introduce to audience the works of artists shaping the face of contemporary art. The most interesting projects of independent Russian and foreign curators in the framework of the 6th Moscow Biennale will be presented at the leading exhibition venues including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Garage Museum, the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center and many others.

In total, more than 80 projects will be implemented in 40 exhibition venues during the Biennale.

Moscow Biennale is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Government of Moscow, VDNKh and "Moscow Biennale" Art Fund.

Rietumu is one of the largest sponsors in Latvia. At home, the bank is also well known for its supporting high-quality projects in the field of culture and art, as well as an active charitable activity — in 2007 the bank established a special Charity Fund that covered the majority of projects.

There is an art gallery inside the bank, which is a blue-chip platform for Latvian and foreign artists of various movements — this is a place where monthly exhibitions are held and visited by Riga residents and guests of the Latvian capital. The Bank keeps constantly in touch with Latvian museums including the country's largest Art Museum Riga Bourse.

There are large-scale activities in the field of inter-state cultural exchange implemented with support of the Rietumu. Among recent notable projects supported by Rietumu is the Latvia’s exhibition of works by the House of Faberge masters of Moscow museum collections, exhibitions of the famous photographer and politician Janis Krumins "My Latvia" in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, exhibitions by Latvian artist Artis Bute in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, and Voronezh; tour of the Latvian National Opera and the National Theatre in Moscow, the annual Russian Theater Festival "Golden Mask in Latvia", the International Jazz Festival in Riga, open air broadcasting of Rodion Shchedrin's opera "The Enchanted Wanderer" in Riga, presentation of the "Dead Souls" performance at the stage of the National Theatre of Latvia (directed by Kirill Serebrennikov) and others.
